CHUY GARCIA AND CHICAGO TEACHERS UNION ENDORSE DELIA RAMIREZ FOR STATE REP. OF IL’s 4th DISTRICT
Chicago, IL (December 17th, 2017) – Cook County Commissioner and Congressional candidate Chuy Garcia and the Chicago Teachers Union have endorsed lifelong resident and community builder Delia Ramirez to represent the heavily-Latino IL 4th House District seat being vacated by Rep. Cynthia Soto.
“I am excited and enthused to be standing next to one of Chicago’s most outstanding community organizers and advocates for strong neighborhoods,” Garcia said Sunday in Humboldt Park’s historic Paseo Boricua on Division St. “Delia understands what public service is all about.”
Delia was placed on the ballot by a grassroots army of 200 volunteers from the 4th House District’s Humboldt Park, Logan Square, East Village, Ukrainian Village, West Town and Wicker Park neighborhoods.
Last week, Delia, currently deputy director of the Community Renewal Society, a faith-based social services organization, also received the endorsement of the Chicago Teachers Union after a unanimous vote in the CTU House of Delegates. Delia has also recently been endorsed by CTU affiliates United Working Families and Grassroots Illinois Action.
In a statement, CTU said:
“Delia Ramirez has been an education organizer in Logan Square and Humboldt Park for many years. The former president of the Logan Square Neighborhood Association, she opposed the 2013 school closings and charter expansion and advocated for real sanctuary for students. She supports progressive revenue and using the money to fund not only school needs—counselors, clinicians, librarians, and a broad and rich curriculum—but affordable housing, too.”
